ULTIMATELY, YOU WANT AN EASY AND SIMPLE WAY TO HAVE A CLEAN CUT LAWN WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT.
LINCOLN MOWING & TRIMMING
Lawn mowing can seem like a simple task, but at the end of the day few companies bear the efforts to help ensure a green, lush, and healthy lawn. Many lawn care companies look to rush through the job as quickly as possible. At Summit Lawns, we practice several lawn mowing techniques throughout the year that affect the long term beauty of your lawn. Using the right sized mower for the right sized lawn, rotating the mowing direction, and adjusting the cutting height during the heat of the season are just a few of these lawn care techniques.
SO HOW DOES YOUR LAWN MOWING SERVICE WORK?
Our Lawn Mowing and Trimming service runs for approximately 30 weeks each year, April 1st – October 31st. Our crews will come to your home every 7 days during that period to mow the lawn, trim along all concrete edges, landscape beds, trees, and building structures. When that’s done, we blow all the debris off any unclean surfaces. We bag the grass clippings when necessary, but mulch them as often as we can as it is healthier both for the lawn and our environment and landfills. Twigs, branches, and general trash debris are removed from the lawn during these visits too. We make lawn care in Lincoln easy!
IN LINCOLN, ALL LAWN CARE FERTILIZERS ARE NOT EQUAL. AND NOT ALL WEED CONTROLS ARE EFFECTIVE FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.
In fact, most homeowners are not aware that fertilizer and weed control are two entirely different products in the lawn care process. You can go to the big retail stores and buy a pretty fertilizer package that promises green grass and a weed free lawn. But because it’s shipped nationwide, the ingredients in that package may not even be relevant to the soil and grass types here in the Lincoln area! That’s where we come in. Even in Lincoln, it is important to recognize that areas like Capital Beach have totally different soil and grass types than the South Pointe area. That’s why our licensed lawn technicians assess your lawn at each visit to provide a more encompassing lawn care service and give YOUR lawn exactly what it needs. If a green and weed free lawn is your destination, our Premium 6-Step Fertilizer/Weed Control Program is the highway to get there.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
Your lawn has a growing season. This is all dependent upon weather and soil temperatures, but generally speaking our program begins in March/April and ends in November/December. We offer a 5-Step Program or a 6-Step Program (this means adding in the grub control application). Throughout the growing season, there are 5 separate and specific fertilizer/weed control applications. Different times of year call for different types of fertilizers that your lawn is hungry for. We feed your lawn the nutrients that it craves during each point in the season to grow thick and strong. Healthy, thick grass is your best prevention to ever having a problem with weeds in the first place.
However, your lawn is still susceptible to an army of different weeds that come in separate waves during the year. Fortunately, our technicians have the enemy weed’s battle plans. We know when each type of weed wants to attack, and we know how to fight back for the best weed control.
WHEN DO I BEGIN?
It is important to understand that getting a thick, green lawn is a process. One application of fertilizer and lawn treatment to spray weeds will not solve long term problems. You can sign up at any point during the season and hop into the current application rotation, but this service is designed to work as an ongoing program. We are encouraging the grass to grow thicker with each application, and continually killing off new weeds as they appear.
DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING AFTER A LAWN TREATMENT?
When it comes to your lawn, there are three variables at play: anything we do, anything you do, and anything nature does. We work together with you to combat whatever nature throws our way. What does that mean? After each fertilizer application, we provide you with the a summary of what we did, what you can expect to see, and what we need you to do. This is where you will find any pertinent watering directions for this specific application.
THIS PREVENTATIVE STEP ONLY NEEDS TO BE APPLIED ONCE PER YEAR AND SAVES TIME, HEADACHES, AND MONEY.
WHAT ARE GRUBS?
White grubs generally come from the larvae of the June bug, which Lincoln has a large population of. The June bugs mate and lay their eggs in the soil, where these critters hatch and begin eating grass roots. Slowly but surely, large brown spots begin developing in the yard. Not only do the grubs destroy your lawn, but they also attract other animals that eat the grubs in your lawn. No matter what you do, lawn grubs are going to find your lawn. Small quantities are fine and of no concern. However a large infestation can occur without warning signs, so it’s best to prevent them to begin with. It’s much more cost effective to prevent lawn grubs than to reseed or resod your lawn to repair the damage full grown lawn grubs can cause.
Grub Control is often an add-on service to our Premium Fertilization and Weed Control Program and is applied during Round 3 of that program. The product helps ensure grub eggs die as soon as they hatch, so your lawn stays healthy and green. After the application, the technician will leave you instructions for watering to help you get the best results.
WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE GRUBS?
Although it is cheaper and easier to simply prevent lawn grubs, don’t lose hope if your lawn already has grubs. The best warning sign is a large dead spot developing in the lawn. The grass will peel away like a roll of carpet and you should be able to see white grubs in the soil. In the event that you do find yourself with a grub problem, they can still be eradicated. We also offer repairing services like overseeding and sodding of the area that the grubs destroyed.

WHAT IS AERATION?
Aeration is for the long-term health of your lawn. Aeration involves pulling out small plugs of soil to allow air, water, and nutrients to get deep down into the soil and have immediate impact on the grass roots. The main reason for aerating is to make sure the soil doesn’t get too compact. That way nutrients and fertilizers can reach deeper into the soil, allowing the roots to then grow deeper. During drought and times of high heat, those deep grass roots can pull moisture from further down in the soil and survive these hot, stressful periods much better. If it’s done correctly, your lawn should only need to be aerated once a year. If you are signed up for overseeding, the seeding and aeration will take place during the same visit.
SHOULD I BE AERATING MY LINCOLN LAWN?
People often ask us if they should be aerating their lawn, and most of the time the answer is yes. Here’s how to know if your lawn needs aerated:
It gets a lot of heavy use from customers or foot traffic. This compacts the soil.
It’s on a newly constructed business. Often times new commercial property and lawns feature compact subsoil thanks to construction equipment.
It dries out easily or has a spongy feel to it. This could mean that your roots aren’t deep enough to pull water and nutrients that are deeper in the soil.
Was established by sod. The natural soil often gets layered with the sod’s existing soil, creating drainage problems and compacted soil.
WHEN DO I NEED TO AERATE MY LAWN?
We recommend aerating your property in the fall so it doesn’t interfere with spring time pre-emergent fertilizer applications. It also works in conjunction with our winterization application to make sure your grass roots are well prepared for winter weather.
HOW WE GET THE JOB DONE
We make the aerating process simple and painless. We call in advance to establish a date we will be there. If you have underground sprinklers, we need you to have the heads flagged prior to aerating. This helps us avoid breaking any sprinkler heads while the aerator is punching and pulling plugs from the ground. Most people do this themselves, but when needed we can have our aerating professionals do the job for you as well. Upon arrival, we blanket the yard with our machine to pull plugs of soil out of the ground. Once we’re done, your lawn is well on its way to becoming stronger and healthier. It’s as simple as that!

WHY OVERSEED YOUR LAWN?
Your lawn can take a beating throughout the year thanks to weather, kids, and pets. There are nearly limitless possibilities why your lawn can start to thin out. Overseeding is an easy and effective way to strengthen your lawn and thicken your grass to help naturally protect against weed problems.
WHEN TO OVERSEED
The best time of year to overseed your lawn is in the late summer and early fall. That way the soil is still warm, but the air is cool, providing optimal growing conditions. We avoid overseeding in the spring due to interference with our weed control program. Since overseeding goes hand-in-hand with aerating, we perform both services at the same time.
HOW WE OVERSEED
Overseeding cannot be done without proper aeration. As we have previously discussed in our aeration post, we aerate the lawn first to open up the soil and get the seed down into the soil, making growth faster and easier.
New grass seed is pretty sensitive and needs to follow a consistent watering schedule to get the best results. Your technician will leave you watering instructions.
